Hollywood’s favorite Boston boys, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, may seem inseparable, but despite three decades in show business, they’ve rarely starred opposite each other in leading roles since their breakout in “Good Will Hunting.” However, that’s about to change as the longtime pals are set to team up once again for the upcoming Netflix crime drama “RIP,” from writer-director Joe Carnahan (“Narc,” “Smokin’ Aces”).

Plot details, additional casting, and a release date are still under wraps.

Damon will also share the screen with Affleck’s brother, Casey Affleck, in the new Boston-set heist flick “The Instigators.” The action comedy hits select theaters on August 2 and premieres August 9 on Apple TV+.

The older Affleck and Damon caught lightning in a bottle with 1997’s “Good Will Hunting,” the Southie-set film that launched their careers. They won an Academy Award for writing the script, with Damon playing the title character and Affleck as his best friend, Chuckie. Twenty-five years later, the duo reunited for the Affleck-directed “Air,” with Damon in the lead role. They also co-wrote and co-starred in Ridley Scott’s 2021 drama “The Last Duel.”

“RIP” will be produced by Artists Equity, the artist-led studio Damon and Affleck founded in 2022. The studio aims to give artists more creative control.
